So, in an unusual moment of clarity this evening I realized that an excessive fear that had lingered for more than two years had now become surmountable. I nervously checked a final, unread email from an old friend, and found it astonishingly toothless, astonishing because I had long ago become accustomed to her emails leaving me feeling lacerated. In retrospect, it seems that the messages were only painful when she was making a concerted effort to communicate with me.

Distance is one of those things whose effectiveness I'm uncomfortable/ashamed to admit to. On one level it seems lazy or like giving up. As I get older I notice it more, though, and if it has a good effect, then good. :)

*grins* There are ways of solving a problem that you can be proud of, but this isn't one of them. Though I can see some humor in a person saying, "Damn this situation is complex, I'd better wait a few years."

Though there's the caveat that distance doesn't work so well for me as for others, send I tend to recall emotions vividly.

Would this friend be a certain Australian with a name/nick four letters long?

Yep. In retrospect, I only omitted her name because I wasn't in the mood to give anyone the backstory.

You know, it's rude to engage in character assassination in public.
