The feel of a place
Dec. 29th, 2005 08:27 pmIn my adolescence, when I set out to reexplore the regions of Dallas near my house, I ranged many places on my bicycle. Occasionally I would come to an area that gave me a specific, consistently reproducible feeling, sometimes having to do with the terrain, or the buildings or the people, and sometimes just myself. It's dismaying to have learned that neither driving (in a small, insulated pickup) nor walking give the same experience; here's hoping a motorcycle will.
